Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories – Brooke Abdool

In our ongoing series "Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories," we spotlight remarkable individuals who have made significant strides in their academic and professional journeys. This edition features Brooke Abdool, an Honours Bachelor’s Management and Organizational Studies graduate specializing in Commercial Aviation Management.

Brooke chose to study Management because of its versatility, combining business and aviation courses that she found incredibly beneficial as she entered the industry. “Having that understanding of the business side as well as being able to fly was crucial,” she shares. Her passion for aviation was further enhanced by her active involvement in the Western Aviation Association (WAA), where she served as the Vice President of Women in Aviation and participated as a member.

Balancing her studies and flight training, Brooke dedicated three days a week to the DFC London Flight Centre, where she honed her piloting skills. Among her many achievements, one of her most memorable experiences was completing her first solo flight early in her second year. “Landing that first solo flight was an amazing experience—something that no pilot ever forgets,” she reflects.

Brooke's journey at Western was not just about academics; she engaged in various extracurricular activities, including playing in the competitive division of Intramural Volleyball. Her advice to incoming first-year students emphasizes the importance of hard work and building peer relationships. “Take advantage of everything that the program offers, from community events to professional networking and social opportunities,” she advises.

The Commercial Aviation Management community at Western provided Brooke with a supportive and enriching environment, making her academic experience even more rewarding.
