In the fast-paced world of aviation and business, few programs offer a unique blend of skills and opportunities like Western University’s Commercial Aviation Management (CAM) program. Matthew Shoss, a standout student in this program, has taken full advantage of its unique curriculum that combines the thrill of commercial flight training with the business acumen needed to navigate the complexities of the aviation industry.

As a Commercial Aviation Management student, Shoss is not only building the technical skills required to become a pilot but also honing the business expertise that will open doors in airline management and beyond. “The DAN Management Commercial Aviation Management program is extremely unique, combining commercial flight training with a business degree. As a graduate of this program, you have the option to pursue a career as a pilot, to join the airline management team, or to pursue other business ventures,” Shoss says, reflecting on the breadth of opportunities that await him after graduation.

But Shoss’s story goes beyond the cockpit. In his role as Vice President of Governance and Finance for the Social Science Students’ Council, Shoss took on the challenge of managing budgets and working with a dedicated team. “As the Vice President of Finance for the Student Council, I gained invaluable experience in managing budgets, and working collaboratively with a dedicated team,” he explains. These experiences are already shaping his leadership and financial management skills, adding another layer of expertise to his future career.

Shoss’s journey exemplifies the versatility of the Commercial Aviation Management program and highlights how students can merge their passion for aviation with business leadership. Through his academic and extracurricular pursuits, Shoss is flying toward a bright future in the aviation industry, both in the air and on the ground.
