Timelines & Recruitment

The Social Science Internship Program is on a continuous hiring cycle for both short-term (10 weeks to 4 months) and long-term (8-16 months) options. This means we do not have set dates for posting, interviewing, and extending offers. In order to be competitive, we do encourage you to post opportunities by February, and hire by March.

Typical Work Terms: Short-term (10 weeks to 4 months)

For the short-term internship, we have Summer (May - August), Fall (September - December), and Winter (January - April) work terms available. Work terms must be at least 10 weeks in length. We find the majority of students seeking short-term internships are interested in a summer work term.

Typical Work Terms: Long-term (8 - 16 months)

For the long-term internship, there are several options to fit your needs.

  • 2024-2025 student cohort can start January, May or September 2025
  • Work terms are 8 - 16 months in length
  • Students have completed at least 3 years of full-time studies; students return to school to complete their final year of study in September 2026. 

Possible start and end dates by length: 

16-months: May 2025 to August 2026

12-months: May 2025 to April 2026 or September 2025 to August 2026

8-months: May 2025 to December 2025, September 2025 to April 2026 or January 2025 to August 2025 

Recommendations for Recruitment

The following dates are recommendations for ensuring a positive and successful recruitment experience. If you have required dates that fall outside of these recommendations, please let us know (hiresocialsci@uwo.ca) and we would be happy to discuss.

  • September 27, 2024: Postings go live to students
  • October 13, 2024: Earliest possible application deadline
  • October 14, 2024 - August 15, 2025: Continuous interview & offer and acceptance period
  • August 8, 2025: Final application deadline for 2024-2025 recruitment cycle

  • Fall Reading Week: October 12 - 20, 2024
  • Fall Exams & Holiday Closure: December 9, 2024 - January 6, 2025
  • Winter Reading Week: February 15 - 23, 2025
  • Final Exams: April 7 - 30, 2025
