Western faculty and staff members have access to a broad range of health services and supports.
Personal wellbeing encompasses a wide range of ideas. Wellness involves not only working in a safe environment but addresses concerns surrounding physical, emotional, and mental health. A safe work environment is legislated by various levels of governments. It is also covered in the Labour Relations Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Standards Act, and various other acts. Western offers in-house training in Occupational Health and Safety and Rehabilitation Services. Ontario has the WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) to oversee Ontario workplaces. As well, there is information about workplace health at Student Health Services.
Western participates in the Employee Assistance Program through Family Services London. This is a confidential service provided to employees and their families employees can seek professional help to manage anything from stress to family or financial problems. Stress can manifest itself in physical symptoms. The Canadian Institute of Stress provides information that may help identify a possible cause of stress that may or may not be related to your job. There is no shame in admitting there is a problem and Family Services London is one way to help you cope and improve your wellbeing.
