Initially set on a career in International Relations, Duong couldn’t ignore her love for mathematics. Her journey took an exciting turn when she discovered the Honours Specialization in Economics at Western—a program that allowed her to blend her diverse interests seamlessly.

Western’s robust economics curriculum offers a wide array of courses designed to provide both depth and breadth. Duong credits these courses for sparking her intellectual curiosity and preparing her for future academic challenges. Of all the classes, Economics 4400E, where students write an economic research paper under the mentorship of faculty, became a pivotal point for her. It was in this course that Duong's passion for economics flourished, setting her on a path toward further education. The personalized feedback and close guidance from her professors played an instrumental role in solidifying her research skills and building a strong foundation for her future career.

Beyond the classroom, Duong discovered numerous opportunities to explore her potential. She fondly recalls attending Western Economics Society events, which proved instrumental in shaping her career direction. “I remember feeling overwhelmed by the numerous career paths in the industry,” Duong reflects. “But hearing from alumni about their professional experiences and receiving their advice made a world of difference.”
