Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories – Kaitlyn Manicom
In this edition of our Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories series, we are proud to highlight Kaitlyn Manicom, a Western University graduate who has earned her Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies with Honours Specialization in Consumer Behaviour, complemented by a Minor in Psychology. Kaitlyn’s remarkable journey at Western is crowned by her recognition as a Gold Medal Recipient for academic excellence.
Kaitlyn’s academic path reflects the interdisciplinary strength of the DAN Management program. "The program offered me the chance to specialize in Consumer Behaviour while also exploring other areas of business like Finance and Accounting," she shares. "I was particularly drawn to Consumer Behaviour because of my fascination with the psychology behind consumer decision-making and buying habits."
Her passion for understanding human behaviour led her to pursue a Minor in Psychology. "Many of my electives were psychology courses because they paired so well with my specialization," she notes. "This combination deepened my understanding of the psychological principles that shape consumer actions, enriching my perspective on marketing and business strategy."
Beyond the classroom, Kaitlyn embraced opportunities that prepared her for professional success. She completed a transformative internship through the DAN Management program, which became a stepping stone for her career. "I wanted a leg up before graduation," she explains. "The internship gave me real-world experience, and I’m now working full-time at the same company where I interned, building my career in digital marketing."
Kaitlyn credits the program's professors for their invaluable mentorship. "Many of them have extensive industry experience, which they bring into the classroom through real-life examples and case studies," she says. This blend of academic rigour and practical insights has empowered Kaitlyn to succeed in marketing while keeping the door open to other areas like business operations and strategy.
Reflecting on her journey, Kaitlyn highlights her favourite aspect of the program: "The study and review of consumer research and its overlap with basic human psychology. Learning how decades of research have shaped our understanding of consumers today was incredibly inspiring."
Kaitlyn Manicom’s story exemplifies how the DAN Management program equips students to excel in diverse fields while fostering a profound understanding of business and human behaviour. Celebrate her success with us, and stay tuned for more inspiring stories in this series.
