Kiarash KazemianIour Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories series, we highlight individuals who embrace challenges, discover new possibilities, and shape their futures through the Faculty of Social Science. This edition features Kiarash Kazemian, an Honours Specialization student in Political Science.

Kazemian’s passion for law and diplomacy began in high school, where he discovered his talent for debate and public speaking. His interest in advocating for ideas and defending perspectives naturally guided him toward Political Science, a field where his skills and ambitions could grow.

During his first year at Western, Kazemian enrolled in Business 1220 — a course often described as a notoriously challenging course for pre-law students. Despite initial doubts, he embraced the challenge, worked diligently, and exceeded expectations by earning an A. “The result was one thing, but the people I met, the things I learned, and the perspective I gained were things I never could have accomplished without trusting my abilities,” he reflects. The experience taught him that pushing beyond fear often leads to growth and lasting confidence.

Kazemian has also embraced opportunities outside the classroom. From competing in Canada’s largest Model UN conference in Montreal to serving as AVP of Communications with the Mooting Society, he has strengthened his debating and advocacy skills while building valuable networks. His role as a first-year representative for Western’s Model United Nations Society and his training as an Off-Campus Soph further highlight his commitment to leadership and community.

Beyond academics and extracurriculars, Kazemian gained practical experience through an internship at NiaLaw PC, a full-service law office, where he supported marketing campaigns and learned to navigate legal databases. These experiences, paired with the mentorship of professors, teaching assistants, and Sophs, have deepened his confidence in pursuing a future in law.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Kazemian emphasizes the importance of curiosity and courage. “Step outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself personally and academically. Take as much initiative as you can, be prepared to give your 100% both in and out of the classroom, and use your support system to guide you.”

Kazemian’s story reflects the spirit of exploration and determination that defines Western’s Faculty of Social Science. His path demonstrates how embracing challenges — from demanding courses to leadership opportunities — can open doors to personal growth and professional success.
