Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories – Madison Kyun
By Diana CorredorIn our Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories series, we continue to spotlight students whose stories reflect the many paths to success within the Faculty of Social Science. Today, we feature Madison Kyun, a third-year student in the BMOS Honours Specialization in Accounting.
For Kyun, Western’s Faculty of Social Science has been more than an academic home—it’s been a launchpad for personal growth, career exploration, and lifelong connections. “Western has given me the confidence to explore different areas of business from marketing to finance,” she shares. “It’s played a huge role in preparing me for the internships I’ve pursued.”
Kyun is currently gaining hands-on experience as a Financial Reporting Accounting Intern at Whitecap Resources, a Calgary-based energy company. She also spent last summer as a Marketing Intern at BOLD Athlete, a professional hockey strength training company. These two roles—spanning both marketing and finance—have helped her translate classroom knowledge into professional impact. “Both experiences have helped me apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-world environments,” she says.
But Kyun’s journey at Western goes far beyond academics. As Events Director for Western Women in Business and an active member of the Western Real Estate Club, Western Sports Business Club, and Western Marketing Association, she has built a diverse and inspiring community around her. “Being involved in these communities has truly shaped my time at Western,” Kyun reflects. “They’ve introduced me to amazing people, new opportunities, and invaluable learning experiences beyond the classroom.”
Originally from out of province, Kyun remembers the challenge of transitioning to university life—but she quickly found her place. “Despite being the largest faculty, Social Science still feels incredibly connected and supported,” she says. One of her most meaningful experiences has been serving as a Social Science Soph. “It gave me the opportunity to support incoming students, lead with empathy, and collaborate with an inspiring team,” she says. “It taught me the importance of building a community through shared experiences.”
Kyun’s advice to incoming students? “Say yes to every opportunity, even if it feels outside your comfort zone. Western gives you the space and support to grow in ways you can’t always predict. Get involved, stay curious, and trust that every step you take is helping shape your unique story.”
Follow along as we continue to celebrate the stories of students like Madison Kyun who are making the most of their time at Western—and inspiring others along the way.
