Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories – Sakshi Bhargava
By Diana CorredorIn our Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories series, we proudly showcase inspiring individuals whose journeys highlight the impact of education and community. This edition features Sakshi Bhargava, a graduate of Political Science at Western University.
Coming from Botswana, Bhargava was drawn to Political Science because of its power to reveal how institutions, policies, and people intersect to shape lived realities, particularly in underrepresented communities. “The program’s global lens and critical approach to power and governance aligned perfectly with my passion for social justice and equity,” she reflects. “I wasn’t just looking for a degree; I was looking for a space to grow as an advocate, and the Faculty of Social Science offered exactly that.”
Throughout her studies, Bhargava found invaluable support from the Faculty of Social Science and the Careers & Experience office. Through resume building, interview preparation, and career exploration, she gained the tools and confidence to pursue opportunities in public service and advocacy. Being part of such a large and diverse faculty also shaped her growth. Surrounded by driven and creative peers, she was continually inspired and motivated to push her ambitions further.
Beyond the classroom, Bhargava dedicated herself to student leadership and community engagement. As the Charity Coordinator for the USC, she led a number of local initiatives that turned her passion for community work into meaningful action. She also served as the AVP Advocacy on the Social Science Students’ Council, where she built lasting friendships and worked with fellow student leaders to create more equitable spaces across campus.
Bhargava’s journey at Western is a powerful reminder of how international perspectives enrich the Social Science community. Her advice to future students, especially those coming from abroad, is clear: “Your voice matters here. Don’t be afraid to bring your background, your stories, and your boldest ideas into the classroom. Seek out mentorship, ask tough questions, and get involved early. Western has so many opportunities, but it’s up to you to claim your space, build your community, and let your experience here shape your path forward.”
