Internship Information for Students

If you have secured an internship opportunity for Summer or Fall 2025, you may be eligible for the internship credit. See Arranging Your Own Internship for more detail.

This means that you can express your interest in participating in the internship program to secure paid work experience while earning academic credit next year. See Application Process for instructions.

Social Science Internship Program (SSIP)

The Social Science Internship Program is a co-operative education opportunity designed for upper-year students registered at main campus in the Faculty of Social Science to participate in paid and career-related internships for course credit (See Academic Calendar).

Available Lengths:

Short-term Internship (10 weeks - 4 months); Winter, Summer and Fall terms available; earn 0.5 credit

Long-term Internship (8 – 16 months); begin in May or Sept of fourth year; earn 1.0 credit

Commitment: Full-time work term (32+ hours per week). Students may not enroll in other courses during their internship work term without special permission.

*Students registered with Accessible Education are considered full-time if enrolled in 40% of a full time course load (i.e. 1.0 credit or more per term). Please advise the Experiential Learning Coordinator if you are registered with Accessible Education and have been approved for a reduced course load.

**Additional opportunities may include an internship work term between years four and five of an eligible academic program, or between years one and year two of a second degree.

The advance registration form for 2025-2026 is now open on Western Connect. Since this is an early expression of interest, your eligibility will be checked after all grades have been finalized (mid-summer). Regular admissions will re-open in Fall 2025.

Third year students: By completing the form, you will automatically have access to 4-month and 8-16 month opportunities offered through the Social Science Internship Program.
