American Studies
Western’s American Studies program is one of only a handful in Canada. This exciting and innovative interdisciplinary program introduces students to the social, political, historical, and cultural dimensions of the United States.
Anthropology
In the Department of Anthropology we explore the human experience, past and present, by learning about differences and similarities in societies, examining culture, language, and our biological and material worlds in their rich diversity.
Commercial Aviation Management
The Commercial Aviation Management (CAM) program offers a unique combination of academic and applied instruction. CAM students receive an advanced education in aviation management with the option of simultaneously completing a n Integrated Commercial Pilot License.
DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies
DAN Management provides a unique interdisciplinary program in which students develop an understanding of the Social Science foundations of management and combine this with one of the core business disciplines offered in the program.
Economics
Economists study the behaviour of individuals, organizations, and governments, and the implications for markets, national economies, and the global economy. Specialty areas at Western include the economics of education, crime, finance, inequality, climate, and China.
Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies
Housed in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies is a dynamic and interdisciplinary field that focuses on issues of social justice and equality. In our courses you will learn how to develop a critical perspective that takes factors such as sex, gender, sexuality, race, class and disability into account.
Geography and Environment
Geography seeks to understand the world in which we live through a broad understanding of people, places and the physical environment obtained by combining social and natural sciences with application of geographic technology.
History
History (including Jewish Studies and Latin American Studies) allows students to explore social, political, economic, military, and cultural change over time and in a wide variety of places, as well as focusing on communication, research, and analytical skills.
Indigenous Studies
Students examine key fields such as history, language, politics, philosophy, culture, health, sociology, arts, economics and education to gain an understanding of Indigenous societies and learn to identify complex issues and challenges facing First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples in Canada, and Indigenous peoples around the world.
International Relations
The joint honors specialization in international relations examines connections between peoples and states in historical and contemporary contexts. It is an interdisciplinary program in History and Political Science and is aimed at high achieving students.
Linguistics
Linguistics is the scientific study of human language. The focus of research and teaching in the linguistics program at Western is on theoretical and applied linguistics, bringing together an inter-faculty group of researchers for a truly interdisciplinary approach to the discipline.
Neuroscience
Western's undergraduate Honours Specialization offers interdisciplinary training in the neurosciences, with course offerings in psychology, physiology, cell biology and other areas.
Political Science
Western’s Department of Political Science is in the top tier of political research and teaching in Canada. We have almost thirty faculty members, five degree programs, more than seventy undergraduate courses, and thirty graduate courses.

Transitional Justice and Post-Conflict Reconstruction
After mass violence, fractured societies must rebuild. Doing “justice” in a time of transition is difficult and controversial. Post-conflict reconstruction uses a variety of theoretical approaches and practical tools in coming to terms with a society’s troubled past.
Urban Development
Urban Development is focused on the nature of urbanism, the processes affecting urban growth, and the methods and techniques used to analyze urban markets land use and urbanization. This interdisciplinary program prepares students for careers in businesses and agencies concerned with urban development.
