Application Process
Submit your application for advanced entry for the 2024-25 internship cohort now!
STEP 1: Attend an Information Session (recommended)
- Watch a session recording
- Fall 2024 Session Dates TBA
Session will include a program overview, eligibility criteria, the recruitment timeline and process, and course deliverables.
If you decide to participate…
STEP 2: Apply on Western Connect
Register at Western Connect by completing the “Intern/Co-op - SSSI - Social Science Short-term Internship” application form:
Note for third year students: If you are interested in both long- and short-term opportunities this year, please only complete the long-term internship application form where you may indicate your interest in both programs.
Online registration opens April 4, 2024 and closes November 2024. Applying early ensures that you will see early postings from employers who recruit up to a year in advance or more.
Students must submit their application by the deadline to access internship postings and staff support in advance of peak recruitment season.
Applications will be reviewed within 10 to 15 days of the deadline. You will receive a notification from Western Connect once this process has taken place.
Approved applicants will be granted access to view internship job postings on Western Connect.
Students who meet all criteria except the academic average requirement may request re-assessment in January once their fall term grades are posted by emailing socscintern@uwo.ca.
If you are interested in finding your own internship, please see Arranging Your Own Internship for guidance.
STEP 3: Resumé Workshop & Assignment (mandatory)
Workshop date TBA.
Resume assignment deadline: TBA
All students must complete a resume and submit for review by the deadline.
Once you've received feedback, you will be encouraged to tailor each application package that you submit to employers. You will continue to have access to feedback from the Social Science Internship Program team on your individual applications throughout your search.
STEP 4: For International Students: Apply for a Co-op Work Permit (mandatory)
International students who meet the requirements to participate in the internship program must secure a valid co-op work permit regardless of the timing and length of the internship.
We encourage students to submit their application ASAP to avoid delays. Suggested submission before November 30, 2024 for a Summer 2025 work term.
The IESC advisory team is available to help you in the application process! Please email iesc@uwo.ca or book an appointment with an International Student Advisor for support.
